dc.description.abstract The purpose of this Instant Messaging Communication system project has been to investigate the current state of desktop video conferencing and Collaboration technology and to evaluate the potential effectiveness of this technology through implementation for delivering interactive seminars, lectures to a remote audience. Enabling technologies for desktop videoconferencing are discussed, including the compression of audio video, image and text data and the transmission of this data over various communication channels. Features of currently available desktop collaboration systems are deeply studied and implemented in a unique way of its own. Non-technical aspects of desktop videoconferencing systems such as the value added by audio, video and integrated computer applications and the importance of usable user interfaces has been the integral part of implementation phase. To demonstrate the use of desktop videoconferencing for distance learning and correspondence, a live successful demonstration (Testing) of online classroom was demonstrated, over LAN\WAN, to remote participants located at various geographical locations. This demonstration project was judged to be a successful demonstration of the potential application of desktop videoconferencing for distance learning. en_US
