LAN Messenger

Abstract

The project LAN messenger as the name indicates is to be network based communication tool. It is distinct from already existing communication tools in terms of functionality , size and general appeal. The Idea behind the project is to develop a network communication that will offer all the services related to office communication . It is a complete solution to all the problems of the Programmers, Administrators, Mangers, Students and general users. Users can send messages to already existing members. A chat feature will ensure speedy communication between users . The other users will receive the message when they are also online . The receiver can then approve or cancel the incoming message . If the receiver approves then the connection will be established and they will start sending messages to each other . The users will be given an option to start a video conferencing. All the online needs for this will be provided through LAN Messenger. The video can be a one way or two way process con s idering that both the users have a web cam connected with their hardware . LAN Messenger will contain a directory of users currently online . The users will be catego rized on the basis of their current status (if any). If a user wants to request for an audio conferencing, he can simply click on the audio button to start it , conditional that both the users have mi,; rophone and soundcard atta c hed to their hardware . The users will be able to send and rece ive data using LAN Messenger. By sending and receiving we mean that they can send and receive files while they are connected. LAN Messenger is envisioned to fill a gap yet remaining despite the many efforts in the fie I d. There are many too Is for the com m u n i cation w or I d right now, which are all limited in functionality and appeal considering their registration fees . These have mass appeal but do not serve the profession a I and scientific end com pIe t e I y . Online Communication is a very large industry in underdeveloped countries like our own. This service has earned large revenues for India and Pakistan so far . Yet Pakistan is lagging in the IT race. This has been discussed with software houses in Pakistan and the framework is there. LAN Messenger will provide the interface that will allow more workflow into the Pakistani market. This is hoped to give Pakistan a substantial edge in the field of Communication .
