dc.description.abstract The project is related to designing a Telephone Exchange s?lution. The objecti~e of the system is to extract the data from the exchange and dependmg o~ .the data acqUired~ providing the user and the higher management of the Exchange, fac!ltty to enhance thetr business capabilities. This is a group project. The responsibilities are divided module-wise and are described below: Project has 6 subsystems Sub Systems and Responsibilities : • Module for lowest level data extraction and formatting __. M. Kamal • Data importing module__. Shahir Ejaz • Offline Administration Sub System __. Shahir Ejaz • Online(Web Based) Call Information Sub System __. M. Kamal • Voice Mail Sub System_. Shahir Ejaz • Security Module __. M. Kamal 1.1 Scope of the project : The project focuses on: Research, designing and implementation of the layered modules for the data extraction, formatting and structuring between the front-end and the back-end. 1.2 Brief Description of each Module: Module for lowest level data extraction and formatting: Whenever a call is made, the exchange keeps a record of this call in a specific format. The module extracts the information from the telephone exchange and formats it in the required manner and stores the information in the form of readable text format for the data-importing module. Data importing module: This system will extract information from the text file generated by the data extraction module and formats it into the database. This module is designed in Visual Basic 5 and MS Access is used as the database environment. Offiine Administration sub-system: This sub-system is being designed for the Administration of the exchange to manage information regarding the telephone subscribers and employees managing the system. This system will also generate user level reports such as number of unanswered calls, total calls etc. The reports generated by this system will be. highly interactive and will be issued for the common user subscribing for this service. Periodic reports will be handled in this sub-system. The development environment for this tool is Visual Basic 5. Online(Web-based) Call information sub-system: This system is developed in latest Active Server Pages technology using Microsoft Visual Interdev. This system is able to provide online facilities to the user. Any user having an Internet connection and subscribing for the service will be able to check the status of the call already made by him or to him. The system will also generate call-related reports as per user requirements. Security Module: This module is designed to implement security on the Offline Administration 3ystem. The module is designed using Visual Basic 6. Voice Mailing sub-system: This sub-system will enable the subscribed user to use the facility of voice mailing for sending such a mail to any other subscriber. The usage of answering machines is not very common in our country, however this feature will provide call answering facility to subscribers and will cater for the unavailability of an answering machine. This subsystem is designed using Visual Basic 6. 2 en_US
