dc.description.abstract | Our project in a sentence would be defined, as it is a Network Management System (NMS), which provides Accounting, Monitoring, Performance Analysis, Configuration and Error detection of the Local Area Network (LAN).Our project has basically two sub parts, one is called the NMS Manager, which resides on the server in the network and other is the NMS Agents, which are sitting on the client machines in the network. The NMS Manager monitors the whole network and receives processes and stores any information sent by the Agents to it. While Agents sitting on different machines (nodes) in .the network monitor the machines they are sitting on and then send necessary information to the Manager.Accounting is to monitor the employees working in the networked environment that when an employee logged on to a workstation, when that person locked or unlocked the workstation, when the machine was shutdown etc. All these events are recorded and sent to the NMS Manager by Agent where a log of such events is maintained for each user. Each Agent sitting on the machine starts automatically whenever the machine starts up, as soon as machine starts up the Agent sends a message to the Manager that it has come online and also tells the name etc of the user who logged on to the workstation. On the other hand Manager receives this information and enters it into a log along with the current time. In the same way all such event are captured and eventually recorded into a log. One such log is maintained for each user. So as these logs are maintained on the server, the network administrator can query the system (NMS Manager) to show the record of a certain user for a given day or time of day. | en_US |
