Educational Intranet (A Research Study on Network Designing and Implementation)

Abstract

Educational Intranet, Proposal from Huawei technologies China. Intranet refers to a term of network that makes internet related services, such as email, FTP, and the Web, available to users of LAN (local area Network). Project deals with the Designing of a Network Connecting universities of Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad across Pakistan on El 's (2Mbps) to the nearest public exchange of PTCL using OFS( Optical fiber Solution), DXX(Digital Cross Connect), DRS(Dynamic Routing System) in accordance with its technical feasibility, initially International connectivity will be on 6Mbps( 3 streams of E 1) 2Mbps at Islamabad and 4Mbps at Karachi and will be increased as demand grows . Two database servers will be installed at Rawalpindi from where universities will have access to the Pool of data in database as multi-media files, application and archives etc. While designing different conditions put under consideration from Equipments Selection to user facile access to mails, web etc by allocating required bandwidth at each level. Equipments to be used include Routers, Switches, Cache Engines, Firewalls, Data access Server etc. The two Network equipment manufacturing company to be are Quidway of Huwaei and Cisco of USA Routers: Quidway® Routers R3680E and Quidway® R3640E Net Engine: Quidway® Net Engine 16E Access Router: Cisco 3660 or Data Servers: SUN Ultra 450Mhz equivalent/Quidway access Router Firewall: Checkpoint Firewall-! or better LAN Switch: Quidway® S3026. When it comes to Network implementation, the right equipment & Proper vendor Management is of vital importance, although there is no shortage of new Technologies & associate product vendors all vying to sell their own individual brand of Product line solutions unfortunately "one product line fits all" approach to network design rarely ever yields to optimal system. Designing of a Network depends upon your ability to accurately assess which technology will best enable your business today & tomorrow
