Abstract:
A major strength of information technology is its emphasis on strategic planning for information systems. This requires close cooperation between business managers and information system managers. Information has won the status of most precious asset of any modern organization. A vai1ability of a specific piece of information is the first and foremost consideration of every organization to exist in cut throat competition. Online shopping store is one such project that handles exponentially increasing information. It consists of two websites, one for the customer and other for the administrator. The customer site helps the customer in browsing the shelves, adding product to the shopping bag and when finished, he can proceed to checkout. The customer's credit card is authenticated and verified. The shop amount is then transferred to the webmaster's account. The other site is for the administrator .He can add a new product to the store, edit products, remove a product, update order's status and delete n order. The database has been developed using Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, whereas the front-end has been developed using Microsoft Front Page XP, Swish 1.5, Java Applet Button Factory. The website has been hosted in Internet Information Server (liS). Microsoft Active Server Pages has been used for the connectivity between the client side and the web server side. Security is one of the most important factors in the future growth of e-commerce. Making sure that the communication remains secure between the customer and web server is a critical issue. In order to secure the transmissions of sensitive information like credit card and personal data over the Internet, Secure Socket Layer (SSL) has been implemented.
