dc.description.abstract | The project on the comparative study of centralized and decentralized waste water systems was carried from 1 July 2011 to 10 November 2011 for recent assessment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of decentralized waste water system and to compare it with centralized sewage system of I-9. Keeping in view the National and International quality standards on the subject, samples were collected from centralized waste water system I-9 STP Islamabad and from the septic tanks of DHA Islamabad Phase II. Samples were analyzed for BOD, COD, and TSS parameters following the standard and analytical methods. The data has been compiled and results of all parameters have been individually discussed and were compared with National Environmental Quality Standards and European Standards. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that decentralized waste water system proves to be effective in reducing biological load, however a detailed study should be conducted to see the potential of decentralized system for newly developing sectors of Islamabad.
