Abstract:
This thesis, Universal Mobile Telecommunication Services (UMTS) relates to the field of Wireless communication. This thesis is designed the research that has been done on UMTS. As a mobile user may move from place to place, therefore, if nearest services are given to her/him in a presentable format then it would save both time and cost. First it deals with the history of UMTS. Secondly it discusses the evolution i.e. the 151 , 2nd and 3rd generation of UMTS. Then comes the architecture of UMTS, the overall network ~nd equipment. Going through the architecture then the protocols a~e discussed .The protocols on which the UMTS works. After knowing the working of UMTS specific protocols the details of the interfaces, which these protocols communicate with, are discussed. At the end the thesis represents the literature survey, containing the detail of the sites being visited and books studied related to UMTS.
