Abstract

With the passage of time, progress of science by leaps and bounds in the life of human beings is shaping, tuning and turning towards luxury. Man is busy in molding the life towards ·the ease not only in his home but also in his offices. With the rapid development of web sites, the concept of web portal took birth. A web portal is a super site on the Internet that provides a comprehensive entry point for a huge array of resources and services. City web portals are typically helpful to not only domestic Internet users but also to foreigners. City web portals may contain not only the above facilities but also may contain additional things such as city maps, complete address and contact number lists of all the hotels and restaurants, bakeries, hospitals, clinics, laboratories, schools, colleges, universities, book shops, superstores, clubs, cinemas, video shops, boutiques and what not. Although this is a very vast topic and need a lot of research and hard work, I have tried my level best to develop a web portal while considering a few of its aspects. This web portal will not only help the Pakistani people but the foreigners as well, especially the tourists. It provides a detailed address list of all kind of businesses mentioned above, a complete set of maps, showing all the important locations in Islamabad city. The portal provides the user the facility to see the map of every sector of Islamabad. It also provides the companies a facility to advertise their jobs and also provide a facility to the job seekers to apply for these jobs on-line. This web portal contains the web links to all government offices and ministries as well. It has also got information and pictures of important locations like the president's house, Supreme court of Pakistan, Parliament house, Serena Hotel, Shah Faisal mosque, Shakar Pahrian. The portal also gives the users the ability to send free "Web SMS". The users can also get up to date information on PIA flight schedules and Railways schedule. The news section of this portal gives up-to-date national and international news, business and sports news.
