dc.description.abstract The aim of this project is to develop a word processor, which has the capability to transform the written text in a document to speech, as well type the text spoken to it through a microphone. The name of this word processor will be 'Talking Word Processor', TWP for short. It will be developed on the Visual Basic platform. The need for Text-to-Speech is evident because TTS is a teleology that can be used when an application needs to give some audible response or message to the user and where full digital recordings are not appropriate. There are two good reasons why digital recordings would be inappropriate. The first is that digital recordings are relatively large for the gain in speech understandability. The second is that unless the developer knows every phrase or sentence that might be required, there is no way to store what is needed. On the other hand Voice Dictation, which is, in essence, the reverse of TTS resolves user spoken commands into a control for an application. You use a microphone to speak to your computer and. this package converts your words into text. This gives you an ease over the tedious job of typing, as there is less possibility of typing mistakes, as well as it is Jess time consuming._ Speech recognition and TTS are provided by the Speech API (SAPI), which enables a developer to implement these technologies in an application. SAPI facilitates communication between an application and a speech recognition engine. en_US
