The three measures used in this study were Genre Specific TV Viewing Scale (GSTVS), Romantic Beliefs Scale (RBS), and Mate Retention Inventory (MRI). The research findings indicated the Televised Media Usage and Ideology of Romanticism have a significant and positive impact on Mate Retention Behaviors. Furthermore, the findings also determined that Televised Media Usage and the Ideology of Romanticism also positively predicted Mate Retention Behaviors. The results of the t-test analysis demonstrated that mate retention behaviors were more prevalent in males than in the female population. This study has implications for the young adults in regard to establishing awareness of various types of toxic mate retention behavior followed by enhancement of televised media usage and ideology of romanticism.
