dc.description.abstract The study area, Pindori block, lies in the Potwar sub-basin of Upper Indus Basin. The production of hydrocorbon in the Upper Indus Basin comes primarily from faulted anticlinal traps in rocks ranging in age from Cambrian to Miocene. In this study, an attempt has been made to interpret 2-D seismic data for the location and structure of probable petroleum reservoir and basement. An attempt has also been made to study the regional seismological response and nature of faults by Focal Mechanism Solution (FMS) technique and to correlate the results of 2-D seismic data with seismological interpretation. The seismic data was obtained from Directorate General of Petroleum Concession (DGPC) and seismological data of Potwar sub-basin was provided by Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The study of seismic data has showed that there has been reverse faulting in the Chorgali reservoir resulting in pop up structures. The possible traps for hydrocorbons have three-way dip colosure with one side bounded by faults. Moreover, there has been normal faulting in the basement. The Potwar area has indicated an increasing trend in earthquake frequency for magnitude (Mw) 3 ≤ 5.0 with focii range 0 ≤ 50 km. FMS study has proved that one of the faults is oblique slip. The 2-D seismic section also confirmed the oblique slip nature of fault. en_US
