Exploring the Socio- Economic And Environmental impact of Tourism in Swat.

Abstract

This study intends to explore the socio-Economic and Environmental Impact of Tourism in Swat. Tourism is gateway for the development throughout the world but it has major economical developmental role in the third world countries like Pakistan. Swat is located in the north side of the Pakistan and it is known for its breath taking view and rich culture. Within recent years, tourism in Swat has increased a lot which has to both positive as well as the negative outcomes. A Qualitative Study was being carried out in order to get the viewpoint of the locals, hotel managers and the shopkeepers regarding the socio-economic and environmental impacts of the tourism in Swat. They shared their point of view how Swat has flourished economically after tourism. Despite economic development, they showed concerns regarding how their cultural values are impacted. The major issue that was highlighted was the environmental factor and regarded tourism as the threat to the environment. Tourism is one of the leading business but focus should be made on maximizing the positive impacts and minimizing the negative impacts of the tourism in Swat. This research study will help the policy makers and the Government to take initiative to tackle the environmental issues and make policies that benefits the locals and the tourists as well. It will also be helpful in contributing to the literature of the socio- Economic and Environmental Impact of Tourism.
