Abstract:
Purpose
The research focuses on the five factors of global supply chain management techniques
that assure pharmaceutical firms' successful environmental performance including
institutional pressure, TQM, JIT, and environmental orientation. TQM and JIT are
distinct topics; but only SC related issues are addressed here. Whereas the institutional
pressure and environmental orientation are specific to the area of SCM as well in a way
that the way they can influence the GSCM practices are discussed and assessed precisely.
Methodology & Design
This research is based on deductive research method and interpretativism is the selected
metaphysical view for the study. This mono-method study includes just one research
method that is quantitative research. For this research the focus is on Pakistan where
Karachi is specifically focused where diverse industries are concerned; this specific
research is specifically considering pharmaceutical industry which is practicing Green
Supply Chain Management procedures and it is further specified to pharmaceutical
companies of Karachi (Pakistan). The sample size is 200 while 20 companies have been
chosen; 10 employees from each organization have been selected using cluster sampling.
Smart PLS has been used further for the data analysis where different tests have been
performed to get final results.
Findings
GSCM practices are directly related to the organizations’ environmental performance; the
organizations which are concerned about the safety and security of the environment are
the ones who practice GSCM. It is proved that JIT, TQM and EO are GSCM practices
and so when any organization use them then it eventually demonstrates positive
environmental performance. Yet in Pakistan, the concept is novel and so not much
companies are practicing GSCM practices to a greater extent. If the organizations
implement GSCM practices they can be beneficial for the environment and so have
positive environmental performance. This not only help them improve in their own
functions, but also improve their image as an organization with environmentally friendly
approach. Limitations
The research has limitation of time and access to the participants. However, for the
management proper alternatives have been implemented.
Recommendations
Supply management is critical for increasing organizational competitiveness, the current
study helped building awareness to benefits of green supply chain management practices
in the pharmaceutical companies of Pakistan. For the effective adoption of these
practices, organizations must engage with all stakeholders while optimizing the use of
resources, information, and finances to optimize customer value propositions as well as
profitability ofsupply chain. In this process, it reduces environmental consequences while
improving social equality and well-being for all stakeholders. For the effective adoption
of GSCM practices, commercial organizations must engage with all stakeholders while
optimizing the use of resources, information, and finances to optimize customer value
propositions as well as profitability of supply chain. Because of the dynamic nature of
GSCM, researchers in this specific area of concern should delve into the literature on a
regular basis to find research possibilities.
