Abstract:
The topic of the thesis under discussion is the impact of abusive supervision on employee performance in medical sector of Pakistan. The literature of this study shows that about 3.1 percent administrative staff, 16.5 percent paramedical staff, 20 percent nursing staff and 51 percent consultants has been facing abusive supervision. In this way, the performance of employees has been negatively influenced, they start finding alternative job, turnover rate of companies increases, employees feel demotivated and lack of engagement in the company goals which put strong negative influence on the company reputation, productivity, innovation and customer satisfaction. Therefore, the research objectives of this thesis have been formulated on the basis of identified research problem. The three main objectives discussed here are based on the factors affective abusive supervision, factors affecting employee performance and the relationship between abusive supervision and employee performance. Furthermore, the research under discussion has been conducted on the basis of positivism philosophy, deductive approach, survey strategy, Likert scale for primary data collection, peer-reviewed journal articles for creating literature review of the study. The regression analysis, correlation, reliability test have been applied through SPSS to get the research results. Lastly, the results of the study show that abusive supervision significantly impacts employee performance, turnover intention among employees and relationship conflicts. First of all, the morale and confident level of employees start to decrease when they receive abusive supervision. They start anxious from their bosses and avoid asking the queries and issues they face in their work. Therefore, it directly hits the performance level of employees. Moreover, the employees start quitting from their job and start searching other jobs and employment opportunities when the managers provide them abusive supervision. It shows that the respect and dignity are two essential factors of employee retention in the company. Lastly, the abusive supervision also creates conflicts among employer and employees. The workers start contradicting the views of group members when there is a presence of abusive supervision.
