Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to explore the differences between perfectionism, clothing proximity and self- consciousness among media and non – media personnel. Furthermore, to find out the relationship between perfectionism, self – consciousness, and clothing proximity and to explore the moderating role of clothing proximity between the relationship of perfectionism and self – consciousness among media and non-media personnel. Sample consisted of 260 participants (M = 27.24, SD = 5.93) with 157 females and 103 males. For assessment, proximity of clothing to self – scale (Sontag & Lee, 2004), self - consciousness scale – revised (Scheier & Carver, 1985) and the big three perfectionism scale (Feher et al., 2019) were used. It was hypothesized that there will be a significant difference between perfectionism, self – consciousness, and clothing proximity among media and non- media personnel and that there will be a significant relationship between perfectionism, self – consciousness, and clothing proximity among media and non-media personnel. It was also hypothesized that clothing proximity would be predicted by perfectionism and self – consciousness furthermore that clothing proximity will play a significant moderating role in the relationship of perfectionism and self – consciousness. Results showed no significant differences between media and non – media personnel on clothing proximity and self – consciousness but reported high narcissistic perfectionism in media personnel. Furthermore, results indicated significant positive correlation between clothing proximity, perfectionism, and self – consciousness among media and non – media personnel. The results also found perfectionism and self – consciousness significant in predicting clothing proximity and the significant moderating role of clothing proximity in the relationship of private self – consciousness and narcissistic perfectionism. The study has its implications in media and non – media personnel as these variables are significant.
