Abstract:
The current study investigates the relationship between job insecurity (JIS) and Performance pressure (PP) on turnover intention (TI) with the mediated role of burnout (BO). Data were gathered from the medical representative sales officers of top five pharmaceutical companies located in Islamabad. A model is tested in which job insecurity and performance pressure are simultaneously obstacle and challenge stressors. In particular, job insecurity and performance pressure are proposed to have an altogether injurious impact on the organization as these lead towards turnover intention, and it is argued that these effects are mediated by burnout. Conservation of Resource Theory (COR) is used to validate the mediating role of (BO). The model is tested with a sample of 131 respondents out of 172 employees. The questionnaire was used to collect the data. Analysis has been carried out with statistical methods using SPSS software. To check the inferential analysis on hypothesis, regression method has been used. The results of the study showed that the independent variables i.e. job insecurity and performance pressure have a significant and negative impact on turnover intention which is mediated by burnout and these results also indicate that burnout effectively mediates the relationship between JI and TI and PP and TI. Besides it, our study proposes several areas for future research about turnover intention and its potential consequences. The results of this study will be helpful for the pharmaceutical companies to retain their skilled workforce. This study also brings the limelight the determinants that should be focused by the companies when any company carries out the factors that influence turnover intention among their field force.
