Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between Parental Attachment, Resilience and Personal Growth Initiative among single parents. And to study impact of demographic variables on Parental Attachment, Resilience and Personal Growth Initiative. It was hypothesized that there will be significant relationship between Parental Attachment, Resilience and Personal Growth Initiative among single parents. There will be statistically significant difference on the demographic variables of family setup, employment status, marital status and level of education of single parents. Sample consisted of 165 participants, who were approached online with google forms due to current situation created by COVID-19. Research measures used were Demographic Data Sheet, Child Parent Relationship Scale-Short Form revised by Pianta, in 1998, Brief Resilience Scale by Smith et.al developed in 2008 and Personal Growth Initiative Scale II revised by Robitschek et al. in 2012. Results indicated significant negative correlation exists between Parental Attachment and resilience significant, positive correlation exists between Parental Attachment and personal growth initiative, and also resilience and personal growth initiative. Significant positive correlation between resilience and Parental Attachment-closeness exists. Significant negative correlation exists between resilience and Parental Attachment-conflict. Significant differences were found between family setup i.e. joint and nuclear family system. There were differences among employment status of single parents i.e. employed and unemployed. Furthermore differences were found on marital status of single parents i.e. separated, divorced, widow/widower. And on the level of education of single parents i.e. matriculation, undergraduate, graduate, post graduate and doctoral. With the help of the results of present study apposite measures can be adapted for support and guidance of single parents in our society, which can help reduce their burden and encourage them on their effort of upbringing a child on their own.
