Abstract:
The main aim of the current study was to explore the predictive role of QOL and self consciousness with psycho-social adjustment among amputees. The current study was conducted on 161 amputees, comprised of both genders; including upper and lower limb amputation through cross-sectional design from different government and private hospitals. Purposive sampling technique was used to collect data through one to one interview with the help of three questionnaires. Three assessment tools were used to assess Quality of life (WHO-QOL-Bref), self consciousness (self-consciousness-R) and psycho-social adjustment (Psychosocial adjustment scale). The results of the study indicated that quality of life was positively associated with psychosocial adjustment and self consciousness was negatively associated with psychosocial adjustment. There was significant negative relationship between quality of life and self consciousness. Hierarchical regression analysis showed that quality of life and self consciousness were significant predictors of psychosocial adjustment. Demographic variables were also played significant role in predicting psychosocial adjustment. Findings also describe high self consciousness leads to lower psychosocial adjustment among amputees. The study is likely to provide important guide line to help professionals working in rehab institutes to meet challenges in a professional way. Thus will facilitate the process to address the rehab issues and to implement corresponding therapeutic interventions to reduce self consciousness and improve psychosocial adjustment among amputees
