Abstract:
Teachers are the nation builders. Present study aimed to explore the impact of forgiveness and gratitude on mental well-being of government and private school teachers. For this purpose, 180 teachers (90 from government and 90 from private school) were taken. It was hypothesized that there will be a significant positive relationship between forgiveness, gratitude and mental well-being among government and private school teachers. Secondly, it was hypothesized that forgiveness and gratitude will predict mental well-being of government and private school teachers. It was also hypothesized that there will be significant difference on forgiveness and gratitude among male and female school teachers. For the assessment of forgiveness, the Heartland Forgiveness Scale (2005) was used, for gratitude, the Gratitude Questionnaire (2002) was used and for mental well-being, the Short Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale (2008) was used. The results revealed that there is a significant positive relationship between forgiveness, gratitude and mental well-being among government and private school teachers. The results revealed that forgiveness and gratitude significantly predict mentalwellbeing of government and private school teachers. The results also revealed that the there is a significant positive relationship between forgiveness, gratitude and the salary of the teachers. Furthermore, the results revealed that forgiveness of situations was significantly high among male private school teachers as compared to female private school teachers. The results of present study have important implications in forgiveness and gratitude training of the teachers as both of these constructs plays important role in determining the mental well-being of the teachers.
