Resilience, Physical Appearance, and Psychological Distress among Burn Survivors

Abstract

The current study was intended to explore resilience, physical appearance, and psychological distress among burn survivors. Sample comprised of 160 burn survivors with the a age range 18-80 years (M= 31.19 & SD= 11.15). Sample was selected from various inslilllles of a Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Lahore. Purposive sampling was used for /he colleclion of da/O. m Three scales were used for measuring the study variables i.e., Connor-Davidson Resilience Seal~ (CD-RISO) for assessing resilience Satisfaction with Appearance ale (SWAP- self translated m Urdu version) to assess physical appearance, and Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASniJ m Jory measuring~ the psychological distress among burn survivors. Results indicate that /here is a positive relationship between resilience and physical appearance (r= .16, p~ 0. 05). Resilience is m negatively correlated with depression (r= -. 66, p<.O. 01). anxiety (r= -. 58, p<O. 01) and stress (r= a -.63, p<0.01). Furthermore, a negative relationship between depression (r= -.18, p<.0.05). anxiety (r= -.3../. p<0.01) and stress(r= -.17, p<:...0,05) with physical appearance was found. Additional findings, limitations and recommendations for future studies are also discussed.
