dc.description.abstract Many interconnected smart devices or objects interacting with the physical environment known as the Internet of Things (IoT) are available for communication these days. IoT devices perform complex tasks with a high level of intelligence without human intervention. Edge computing provides IoT with run-time processing and computation of the sensed data as computations are performed on the site of the data source or at a resource located close to the data source. Edge based IoT devices communicate on behalf of their owners, so it is crucial to ensure secure and trustworthy communication. Various Trust management and cryptographic schemes guarantee the trustworthy and reliable routing of data. Trust management schemes deal with the isolation of the malicious nodes and encourage the use of the most trustworthy nodes in the path, again and again for routing. The constant use of the same nodes increases their load and makes them more vulnerable to Denial of Services (DoS) attacks. The proposed scheme Path Association based Trust Management (PATM) discourages the nomination of links in the routing path if the history of the selection of routing path from source to destination suggests its active selection. The simulation results provided by PATM prove it reduces the load on the most trustworthy nodes in a system in normal conditions by load balancing the selected routing paths from source to destination. The switching of routing paths in PATM efficiently reduces the effect of the DoS attack as compared to the trust management scheme Beta and Link Quality Indicator (LQI) based Trust Model (BLTM). en_US
