Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, Evidence From SAARC Region

Abstract

Purpose - The purpose of the presented study was to empirically investigate the relationship between entrepreneurship and regional development of SAARC region. Design/methodology/approach – Research is conducted on panel data with a sample period of 8 countries of SAARC region ranges from 2006 to 2018. Data was collected from different sources. GDP (per capita) and GNI (per capita) data found through official site of world bank, HDI data from UN (United Nation) Official website. Findings –Econometric approach was carried out to authenticate the stated hypotheses assuming a positive relationship between the entrepreneurship and GDP, HDI. Whereas entrepreneurship had a negative impact on GNI Practical implications – This research will help the policy makers to support the entrepreneurship by reducing the opportunity cost as well as the cost which helps the new business to grow rapidly. Cost of production should also minimize in order to boost the entrepreneurial activities Originality/value – The empirical analysis was carried out based on the research gap related to the entrepreneurship and regional development. Reason for this research is SAARC region on which research wasn’t carried out before. Attained results have quite a few policy implications, which are discussed in the paper.
