The quantity and quality of the worker is greatly influenced by the work environment
(Vischer, 2007). Work environment plays an important role in the organization. Today's
employees have access to many job alternatives, thus the environment in the workplace
becomes a critical factor in accepting and / or retaining jobs, and most of the problem s
employees face are related to the work environment. Work environment is the environment
in which people work together to achieve the goals of the organization. It means systems,
processes, structures, tools and all those things that interact with employees.
Purpose: A survey design was used to achieve the objectives ofthe study. The present study
aimed to find out the effect ofthe work environment on the performance ofthe employees of
HBL Bank in Karachi. The variables that are included in the work environment are physical,
psychosocial factors and HRM practices. A sample of 375 employees participated in the
study as respondents.
Methodology & Design: The study population was 16000 employees out ofwhich sample of
375 respondent employees was selected using a convenience sampling with non-probability
to assign samples within banks. Data were collected using the closed survey method. Their
analyzed using various statistical techniques, including regression through
SPSS 22. Descriptive statistics and regression models were used to analyze the data.
Findings: The findings of study showed that the practice of physical factors, psychosocial
factors, and HRM practices has a great impact on the performance of employees. Therefore,
the results indicated that the psychosocial aspects showed a moderate correlation with the
employee's performance, while the physical aspects showed a strong relationship and the
HRM practices showed very strong correlation with employee performance.

Limitations: The research context was restricted to HBL Bank Karachi, while future
research could be extended to different banks in different cities for more meaningful results.
A small number of respondents were selected for this study, and use some working
environmental factors (physical factors, psychosocial factors, HRM practices) rather than
using all of them.
Recommendations: It is recommended that attention be paid to other influences of
workplace environments consisting of physical, psychosocial factors and HRM practices. |
