dc.description.abstract The conventional Evolved Packet Core has a simple architecture which include Mobility Management Entity, Service gateway and Packet Gateway and Packet Data Unit-Gateway. MME was connected to both SGW and PGW. PGW then connected to PDN-GW. From eNB to PGW, GTP tunnelling protocol has been used for data delivery. Software defme network (SDN) separate the software which is the control plane ofSDN, from the hardware which is the data plane of SDN. In conventional EPC, MME was connected to both SGW and PGW through physical interfaces but in SDN-EPC it is connected logically. GTP tunnelling protocol is used in SDN-EPC. Different interfaces e.g. Sl, S3, S4, S6 and Sll is used to connect these nodes. These names are given by 3GPP (3rd Generation partnership project) to differentiate the interfaces. GTP tunnelling is used to carry data from eNB to PGW. Single Tullllel is created for each user to transfer data reliably. If multiple user wants to access to deliver data, GTP tunnel will be created for each user separately and TEID is used to differentiate each tunnel. Overhead of GTP is 32 bytes which causes registration delay. In this research TRILL protocol is used which is a layer 2 protocol and use Routing Bridges (R-Bridges). R-Bridge use Intermediate system intermediate system. IS-IS is a routing protocol but ignore the layer 3 address and transfer the data directly without looking to the IP addresses. Overhead of TRILL protocol is less then GTP tunnelling protocol. Which solves the registration delay problem between eNB and MME and data transferring between SGW and PGW. Results shows the better performance when using TRILL protocol. Bahria University en_US
