Abstract:
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are becoming one of the demanding platform for sensing the physical world. Various applications have been designed for monitoring purposes, in which sensor nodes can sense the physical or environmental conditions and transmits the data to the base station via multi-hop routing. Existing routing protocols for WSN are not feasible to manage energy issues of sensor nodes. Due to complex routing protocol, the sensor nodes depleted energy before their time. Due to these limitations, the sensor nodes near the base station are continuously relying on the network for data forwarding to the Base Station (BS). These nodes cause energy consumption and with the passage of time may lead to useless state. To address these, this study proposed a Gateway Clustering Energy Efficient Centroid-based Routing Protocol (GCEECRP) for WSN in which Cluster Head is selected in centroid position. Furthermore, gateway nodes are selected in each cluster. Also, gateway node depends on itself as well as other CHs and forwards the data towards the base station and reduces data load on CHs
