dc.description.abstract Self-service has undoubtedly helped banks stand out from the competition, by diverting routine tasks from employees so they can concentrate on serving customers. Banks in Pakistan mostly provide cash withdrawal services only. The deposition service is still held by human tellers. This inspired us to work on an efficient and reliable way to make the cash deposition system automated. The Intelligent Cash Depositing System saves time, human effort and, with its counterfeit checking feature, is much more reliable. The basic principle of this system is that cash moves into the machine with the help of rollers and motors controlled by microcontrollers. The cash is then checked for counterfeit money and denomination by taking images of each note with a MATLABinterfaced camera using Data Acquisition and Image Processing Toolboxes available in MATLAB. The image taken by the camera is compared with stored images to confirm its originality. Finally each bill is moved into one of the three bins at the other end of the machine depending on the counterfeit or denomination result. The system is simultaneously updated. en_US
