Abstract:
Purpose: The purpose ofthis research is to identify the determinants and antecedents of employee
engagement and how these determinants drive employee engagement in the banking sector of
Karachi, Pakistan.
Methodology & Design: The research uses a causal research design to study how independent
variables (communication, training and development and teamwork and peer support) impacts
gathered using a close ended structured
on
dependent variable (employee engagement). Data
questionnaire from the workers. The research is quantitative in nature. Non probability sampling
was done and the sample size is 312 respondents. Descriptive analysis, reliability test, Pearson
was
correlation and regression analysis were run through SPSS to study the hypothesized relationships.
Findings: The results indicate that there is a positive relationship between identified determinants
(communication, training and development and teamwork and peer support) and employee
engagement. Therefore it is inferred that these variables are the potential determinants ofemployee
engagement.
Implications: The research is specifically carried out at the banking sector of Karachi, Pakistan.
The findings of this research add to existing studies about employee engagement and provide
the organizations about the importance of employee engagement to improve the
efficiency and effectiveness ofthe organization through implementation of policies and practices
that enhances the engagement level of employees. This study provides precise inquires about
employee engagement and how communication, training and development and teamwork and peer
support affects it.
Recommendations: It is suggested to organizations to create an environment where everybody
feels free to communicate their ideas, craft strategies for training and development of the
employees and put their efforts in team building activities. However further researches can be
conducted to study different sample size, scope and variables.
